Frequently asked questions about paint remover

  1. What is the best paint stripper?

Here is a list of few of the best UK paint strippers we highly recommend:

Peelaway 1 Paint Removal System; Powerful and budget-friendly paint and varnish remover that can remove up to 32 multiple layers of paint. It can be used on virtually all interior and exterior surfaces, vertical plus overhead and is excellent for intricate, carved and molded surfaces.

Nitromors All Purpose Paint and Varnish Remover; An all-purpose paint and varnish remover which boasts a convenient green colour indicator to identify where the product has been applied. It is suitable for use on wood, metal, masonry surfaces and also vertical surfaces.

Mangers Paint & Varnish Remover; An extremely effective non methylene chloride paint stripper ideal to use both indoors and outdoors. It’s non drip formulation and minimal evaporation allows it to cling to vertical surfaces ensuring there is minimal waste.

  2. How to use a paint stripper?

A paint stripper is a product designed to remove paints, paint coatings, and other kinds of finishes.

Follow the below steps of how use a paint stripper:

Prepare The Working Area; Lay down plastic on the floor below your working area and cover it with rosin or kraft paper. Next, prepare a pair of gloves that is chemical resistant and make sure that your working area is properly ventilated.

Clean the surface; Ensure to clean your working surface so that it’s free of any dust or dirt.

Apply the paint stripper ; Make sure to shake the paint stripper well and pour it in a shallow container or any other small box. Start applying a paint stripper using a disposable chip brush or an old paint brush. We recommend applying a thick layer of stripper for best results. After the application process, leave the paint stripper to dry for at least 20 to 25 minutes.

Remove the Old Paint; Start scraping off the old paint using a putty knife. You can use a toothpick to remove paints from hard to reach areas. If the paint does not scrap the first time, apply a paint stripper again and allow it to dry for 15 to 20 minutes.

Clean Up and Neutralise the Paint Striper; Clean up the residue of the old paint, and make sure to naturalise the paint stripper. Allow your project to dry for a day or two to make sure that no remaining moisture needs to escape.

While this is a common advice of how to use a paint stripper, please make sure to always follow the instructions provided by the product's manufacturer.

  3. What is the best paint remover for metal?

We recommend using Nitromors All Purpose Paint and Varnish Remover as it works as a great paint remover on any metal surfaces. It has a green colour indicator to identify easily where the product has been applied.

Application: Apply a thick coat with a dabbing action with a brush (2 - 3mm). See safety data sheet for full details and instructions.

  4. How does paint stripper work?

The way paint strippers work is that they penetrate the layers of paint and break the bond between the paint and the surface by swelling the paint. The main active ingredient in all paint strippers is dichloromethane, also called methylene chloride.
