Barrettine Decking Oil (All in One): - has been specifically formulated for use on pressure treated and preservative impregnated timber offering superb protection to deck boards, deck tiles and balustrades.

Also achieves a superior finish to summerhouses, sheds and fences. Non-flaking and its water repellency help prevent timber from splitting and cracking.

Overview - Barrettine Decking Oil, is an oil-based decking stain that is perfect for all types of wooden decking, summer houses, sheds, fences and other garden wood. Solvent-based formulation for deep penetration and enhancing the natural grain and beauty of wooden decking. Will not crack, peel or flake.

Looking for an anti-slip finish? Try Barrettine Anti-Slip Decking Oil, which can be applied as a top coat after applying Barrettine Decking Oil

Preparation: Decked areas to be treated should be clean, dry and free from dirt, debris and other surface contaminates.

New Decking Preparation: For all bare wood decking including tanalised, pressure treated and preservative impregnated decking timbers.

New Softwood decking: For the best protection, treat all sides of the decking boards with a suitable exterior wood preservative

Treat the end grain with Barrettine End Grain Preserver prior to installation

Sweep the decking with a stiff broom to remove all traces of surface dirt and debris

Use a suitable decking cleaner if required before oiling

New Hardwood decking

New hardwood decking usually requires a period of weathering to allow the surface grain to open up. This allows for better absorption of the decking oil. Check the decking manufacturer's guidance on how long decking should be left to weather before applying a decking treatment.

Old Decking Preparation: Ensure that all 'coating' type finishes such as paints, varnishes and varnish like stains have been fully removed to expose bare wood by either jet washing, sanding or using a dedicated decking stripper and remover. This may require more than one attempt.

Old oil finishes should be cleaned thoroughly with Barrettine Decking & Patio Cleaner or other suitable decking cleaner

For decking affected by mould, algae or moss, use a Mould and Mildew Cleaner

Any existing cases of woodworm can be treated with Barrettine Premier Woodworm Killer

For the best protection, treat with Barrettine Premier Universal Preserver

If possible, preserve all sides including end grain prior to installation

Sweep the decking with a stiff broom to remove all traces of surface dirt and debris before oiling a deck

Application: Always do a test area before starting any project to check product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Do not apply Barrettine Decking Oil in wet conditions or if rain, frost or snow is likely before the product is dry. Decked areas should be completely dry before application. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during application.

Apply a thin, even film of decking oil with a suitable decking applicator

Work the oil into the surface of the wood grain

Wipe off any excess oil with a clean, lint-free cloth

Allow the first coat to fully dry, then apply a second coat as above

Allow 24 hours to dry completely before heavy use

Two coats of Barrettine Decking Oil are usually sufficient but this may vary depending on the type and condition of the timber to be treated.

Coverage: 1 coat up to 8 sq metres/litre of smooth timber and up to 5 sq metres on rough sawn timber, 2 coats recommended.

Drying times, normally 24-48 hours in ambient temperature. Apply second coat after 48 hours.:

Clean equipment: with Brush Cleaner, White Spirit or Bio Spirit.

The colour swatches are an indication only and representative of the product applied to clean new/pale timber. The final colour finish can vary considerably due to the age, type & condition of the timber being treated. We always recommend carrying out a test area first in an inconspicuous area to make sure you are happy with the final dried colour.

Popular colours include Light Oak , Dark Oak , Clear and Natural Oak .
